Leeds International Artist Book Fair

Today I went to the Leeds International Artist Book Fair at the Tetley. I got to do some exploring, as well as go to a talk with Cafe Royal Press, Spur and Village in which they discussed independent and self publishing. It was an interesting discussion, Cafe Royal Press explained how publications were a more accessible way of displaying art and communicating an artist/photographer's practice. This kind of echoes how I feel about graphic design and why I chose to do it in the first place. It's a more democratic form of creativity, far more accessible than fine art, though I guess that fine art has its place.

I left feeling pretty motivated to crack on with my work after the event, and hope that one day I might get a chance to be a part of something similar.

Somehow went to a book fair and left with everything but books.

YCN Annual

Just received the YCN Annual that features 10 of us! Big up for the LCA posse. Nice little confidence boost after a bit of a demotivating week/fortnight/month.

Communications with Well Made Studio

A speedy reply! I wasn't expecting it, but Gemma from Well Made replied about an hour after I emailed their studio which is amazing!

Emails to Studios

Hoping there are no blatant mistakes in my emails that I've missed, I proof read them about 50 times for fear that I would say something wrong or offensive.

LPW Work Experience Application

As I have a strong interest in print that I would like to develop further, I have decided to pursue some work experience in this area. As my brother lives in Leicester, has strong creative connections there and would be able to put me up for a while, I decided to ask for work experience at Leicester Print Workshop, which works across a number of traditional print processes, and has a strong creative reputation.

My brother put me into contact with Gemma Wright, who organises volunteers and placements. She sent an email listing what I should send to her.

To which I replied with this email.
I also included a simple CV, working off of my brother's example. I'm aware that it isn't remotely creative, but in this case I felt that it was a better option to use a simple format.

PPPanic! To Do List

Thanks to dissertation madness, Christmas, design work (insert more excuses here) I have completely neglected this blog, and now that the dissertation has been officially handed in, I can now spend more time focussing on this module.

With 18 weeks left, I haven't got much time to develop myself and my design practice, and with that in mind, I've written a to do list to help me get started.

Create a CV to send to the Leicester Print Workshop + craft an email to accompany it.
Create a list of North West studios to contact for studio visits.
Create a list of creatives I would like to get in contact with about my future (simply asking questions about their processes, the industry etc.)
Start mind mapping ideas for personal branding
Create a linked in.
Create a mini portfolio for print and web
Update Behance with more projects.
Find more creative talks/events.
Plan my website.
